The game is played on a grid consisting of nine rows, nine columns, and nine blocks. Each row, column, and block contains nine squares.
The puzzle begins with some numbers already on the grid. The object is to fill in the remaining empty squares so that each row, column, and block contains all of the numbers from 1 to 9.
